Friends of the Library
Formed in 1971, the Friends of Greenville Public Library is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching, promoting and sponsoring literacy efforts in our community. FOL is an involved, caring group of volunteers whose goal is the excellence of our library. Our ideas, efforts, voices and funds promote and support on of our community's greatest assets... the Greenville Public Library.
What the Friends do at GPL
Contributions, membership dues and funds raised through book sales help to purchase items for the library and to support programs for children, teens and adults.
Continuous Book Sale
This year-round fundraiser is located on the second floor of the library in the Computer Lab. Materials in the sale can be taken home for a donation. The sale contains books weeded from the library's collection as well as items donated by the public. For more information, contact the library at (937) 548-3915.
Annual Holiday Open House
The Friends host their annual Holiday Open House at the library every December. Those in attendance are treated to a wide variety of cookies, live music and entertainment!
Book Drop
The Friends of the Library made a significant donation toward the installation of our new outdoor book drop. Thanks to this book drop, patrons are able to return materials anytime day or night, and the materials are safe inside, away from the elements.
1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Donations collected by the Friends of the Library go toward the purchase of the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten cloth bags and iron-on patches, free to every participant reaching the 100 book milestone. The Friends have been responsible for supplying us with bags and patches since the program began back in 2018.
Author's Night
The Friends like to support local authors by hosting Author's Nights. These events have been held at the library as well as
at local downtown businesses.
Family Fun Days
Every summer the Friends donate money toward a number of performers for our Family Fun Days. Family Fun Days are held on the library's front lawn and are free to patrons. In the past, we've hosted musicians, magicians, jugglers, ventriloquists, and more!
